TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE BEST HIKING CLOTHES

Choosing hiking outfits doesn’t have to be complicated.

Here’s what actually matters when you’re getting dressed for the trail:

  1. Ditch cotton! Once cotton gets wet, it stays wet. If you swear or get caught in rain, you’ll stay wet way longer than you want. Instead, look for fabrics like merino wool, polyester, or nylon that dry quickly.
  2. Layer based on the weather. Temperature change fast, especially on longer hikes. Wearing light layers make it easy to adjust without overthinking it. Start with a breathable base layer, then add a mid layer or a jacket if needed.
  3. Comfort over everything! If something feels off when you try it on, it’ll feel worse on the trail. Go for pieces that stretch, move with you, and don’t dig into your skin.
  4. Protect yourself from the sun. If you hike in places like Southern California, sun protection matters. Lightweight long sleeves, hat, and sunglasses go a long way.
  5. Dress for the conditions. Hot and cold weather hikes are completely different. Wear breathable fabrics in the heat, and bring insulation when it’s cold.
